Unraveling Genetic Diversity Amongst European Hazelnut (Corylus avellana L.) Varieties in Turkey

چکیده

European hazelnut ( Corylus avellana ) is a diploid (2n = 22), monecious and wind-pollinated species, extensively cultivated for its nuts. Turkey the world-leading producer of hazelnut, supplying 70–80% world’s export capacity. Hazelnut mostly grown in Black Sea Region, maintained largely through clonal propagation. Understanding genetic variation between varieties, defining variety-specific disease resistance-associated alleles, would facilitate breeding Turkey. Widely varieties ‘Karaf?nd?k’ (2), ‘Sar?f?nd?k’ (5), ‘Yomra’ (2) were collected from Akçakoca west, while ‘Tombul’ (8), ‘Çak?ldak’ (3), ‘Mincane’ ‘Allahverdi’ ‘Sivri’ (4), ‘Palaz’ (5) Ordu Giresun provinces east (numbers parentheses indicate sample sizes each variety). Powdery mildew resistant susceptible genotypes field gene bank heavily infected orchards Giresun. Every individual was subjected to double digest restriction enzyme-associated DNA sequencing (ddRAD-seq) RADtag library created. RADtags aligned reference genome, Stacks software used identify polymorphisms. 101 private six common alleles nine four resistants only one identified diagnosis either certain variety or powdery resistance. Phylogenetic analysis population structure calculations indicated that ‘Mincane’, ‘Sar?f?nd?k’, ‘Tombul’, ‘Çak?ldak’, genetically close other; however, individuals within every varietal group found different sub-populations. Our findings years propagation some preferred across Region has resulted admixed sub-populations great diversity variety. This impedes development true For example, most favored Turkish because high quality nuts, but an elite line does not yet exist. situation continues due lack breed protection program commercially valuable varieties. study provides molecular markers suitable establishing such program.

The Aspergillus flavus Susceptibility of Hazelnut Varieties (Corylus avellana L.) in Laboratory Conditions

Iran has suitable conditions for cultivating high-quality varieties of hazelnuts (Corylus avellana L.). Most of hazelnut orchards in Iran have been established by planting native genotypes. Aspergillus flavus Link. (AF) is a filamentous fungus affecting hazelnut kernels in orchards and during storage conditions. The most widely explored strategy for reducing aflatoxin contamin...

Identification of microRNA elements from genomic data of European hazelnut (Corylus avellana L.) and its close relatives

Plant microRNAs (miRNAs) are small and non-coding endogenous RNAs which have numerous regulatory roles in cells. These critical players regulate pathways either by inducing translational repression or messenger RNA (mRNA) decay. Newly developed bioinformatics tools and computational methods have been increased to identify miRNAs with their targets inside the genome. In this study, we predicted ...

High Quality RNA Isolation from Leaf, Shell, Root Tissues and Callus of Hazelnut (Corylus avellana L.)

Extraction of high quality RNA is a critical step in molecular genetics studies. Hazelnut is one of the most important nuts plants in the world. The presence of the taxol and other taxanes in hazelnut plant necessitates explaining their biosynthesis pathway and identifying the candidate genes. Therefore, an easy and practical method is necessary for RNA extraction from hazelnuts. Hazelnut has h...

In silico development and characterization of tri-nucleotide simple sequence repeat markers in hazelnut (Corylus avellana L.)

Plant genomes are now sequenced rapidly and inexpensively. In silico approaches allow efficient development of simple sequence repeat markers, also known as microsatellite markers, from these sequences. A search of the genome sequence of 'Jefferson' hazelnut (Corylus avellana L.) identified 8,708 tri-nucleotide simple sequence repeats with at least five repeat units, and stepwise removal of the...
